Malaysian Prime Minister Mohd Najib Tun Razak expressed on Wednesday his condolences to China over the deadly earthquake that hit the country on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit the Jiuzhaigou county in the Sichuan province on Tuesday leaving at least 19 people dead and 263 more injured.

“Our condolences to the Government and the people of China, especially those affected by the Sichuan earthquake,” the prime minister wrote on his Twitter page.

China is located in a seismically active zone and regularly suffers from powerful earthquakes. The world’s deadliest earthquake hit central and eastern part of China in 1556 leaving about 830,000 people dead. The Sichuan province was hit by a 8.0-magnitude earthquake on March 12, 2008 that killed around 70,000 people.
