Over 100 Killed in Pakistan as Oil Tanker Turns Over, Catches Fire

At least 149 people died in Eastern Pakistan after an oil tanker turned over and caught a fire on a highway, media reported citing sources in rescue services.

The incident that occurred in Pakistan's eastern region of Punjab killed at least 123 people, according to local Geo TV channel.

Another 40 people were taken to hospitals with 70 percent burn injuries, and the rescue operation is underway. The media reported that the locals gathered near the tanker to collect fuel that had leaked out of it. According to eyewitnesses, some people smoked cigarettes, which could lead to fire. The blaze spread to dozens of vehicles, including 75 motorcycles and four cars.

Rescue services and firefighters are on the scene, responding to the incident.

The fire has been localized, but traffic on the road has not yet been restored.
