Afghan security forces released at least 19 people, including children, who had been held in prison by the supporters of the Daesh terrorist group, local media reported Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Local security forces freed civilians during a special operation, conducted in Nangarhar province located in the eastern part of Afghanistan, Khaama Press news agency said.

According to the news agency, this was the first time Afghan forces released hostages, captured by the Daesh terrorists.

On Sunday, local media reported that at least 25 Taliban militants were killed by an airstrike in Nangarhar.

The situation in Afghanistan has significantly deteriorated in the recent months. Afghan cities now witness offensives by the radical Taliban movement as well as extended influence of Daesh terrorist group.
