TASHKENT (Sputnik) – Acting President of Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has been nominated to run in the December 4 presidential race, the Central Asian republic’s Central Election Commission said Friday.
"Shavkat Mirziyoyev was nominated to run in the presidential elections of Uzbekistan at a political council meeting of the Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party," the commission said in a Facebook post.
The vote comes after the death of long-time Uzbek leader Islam Karimov, who died on September 2 at the age of 78.
