India is eagerly waiting for the visit of Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, as he arrives on Thursday for a four day visit.

New Delhi (Sputnik) — Nepalese Prime Minister Prachanda is arriving in New Delhi on Thursday on his first overseas visit after becoming Prime Minister on Nepal for the second time.

During his four-day visit Nepalese Prime Minister Prachanda will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance Minister Arun Jaitly and Minister of Power Piyush Goyal.

India and Nepal are likely to discuss the Railway project. India is helping Nepal to build the east-west railway line stretching from Mechi to Mahakali. Apart from that India and Nepal will discuss a hydro-electric power plant that India will build. Prachanda will also visit the Nathpa Jhakri Hydel Project in Himachal Pradesh during his India visit.

“Prachanda’s visit is crucial. The ouster of K P Shram Oli has been a big respite for India due to his leanings towards China. In fact, India is said to have played a crucial role in Prachanda’s accession to the throne. Now India wants to increase its sphere of influence in Nepal and strengthen bilateral relations,” Dr Savita Pande, Professor of South Asian Studies in New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University told Sputnik.
