    Chinese police arrested 236 people suspected of organizing a network of football betting online, which is banned in the country, according to local media.

    MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Since the beginning of the UEFA Euro 2016 Championship, the Chinese police have arrested 236 people suspected of organizing a network of football betting online, the Ministry of Public Security said Sunday.

    Game betting is banned in China.

    In total, assets worth about 28 million yuan ($4.2 million) were seized and frozen from the lawbreakers.

    Proceedings are instituted against all the detainees.

    France is currently hosting the Euro 2016 football championship, which started on June 10 and is due to end on July 10.
