At least 12 people were killed across India's northern Uttar Pradesh state due to storms and heavy rains, media reported Monday, citing local officials.

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — All the 12 people, including two children and at least one woman, died in separate incidents over the weekend, all the incidents were caused by heavy rains and gusts, the NDTV broadcaster reported.

The rains in northern India are likely to continue for at least two more days, the broadcaster said, citing a meteorological official.

The rainy season in India starts in late May or June and usually lasts until the mid-September. The weather conditions change in different parts of the country with regard to the monsoon winds.
