ANKARA (Sputnik) – Police blocked the streets and cordoned off the area around the car, which is now being examined by bomb-disposal experts, NTV TV-channel reported.
Law enforcement agencies have been searching for the car used in a terrorist attack on military barracks in Istanbul’s Sancaktepe district that injured eight people, including five soldiers, on Thursday.
In recent months, Turkey has been hit by numerous terror acts, with both Islamist and Kurdish militant groups allegedly responsible for the appalling atrocities.
Relations between Ankara and the Kurdish ethnic minority, both inside the country and in neighboring Syria and Iraq, have been progressively worsening. Ankara has been carrying out a campaign against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which seeks to create a Kurdish state in parts of Turkey and Iraq.
