The death toll in a collapse of a flyover under construction in eastern India has reached 24 people, local media reported.

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — According to the NDTV channel, the collapse of the flyover took place in the city of Kolkata at 12:30 p.m. local time (07:00 GMT). The cause of the incident is yet to be established. Witnesses claim that before the collapse an explosion took place.

Around 90 have been saved during rescue operations, the broadcaster reported, citing an official.

A police unit is heading from Kolkata to Hyderabad to reportedly arrest officials of the IVRCL construction company responsible for building the flyover which has been under construction since 2009 and missed a number of deadlines for completion.
