Two Burmese men were sentenced to death for 2014 murders of two UK nationals in Thailand, British media reported Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the BBC, Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo killed Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, the judges said.

The broadcaster reported that the men retracted their confession, claiming they had been tortured by the police. Both men, who were migrant bar workers in Thailand, were found guilty of murder and ordered to face death penalty by three judges.

Witheridge and Miller’s bodies were found on the island of Koh Tao in September 2014. Both had been bludgeoned to death. DNA evidence found was used in the investigation.
