MOSCOW (Sputnik) – In July, media reported that some $700 million from the state-owned strategic development company 1Malaysia Development Berhad had been transferred to the prime minister’s private account. Najib, however, said that the money came from abroad and not from the company.
"There shall be no retreat, no surrender. No retreat! No surrender!" he said, addressing the meeting of his ruling United Malays National Organization party, as quoted by the Straits Times daily newspaper.
The prime minister added that he was ready to negotiate any problems, as he was not involved in any wrongdoing.
In October, Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad demanded Najib's resignation over the allegations that he had embezzled state funds for private purposes.
