MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to a provincial police chief, the incident happened late Monday night, when the kidnapped were on a yacht docked at Holiday Oceanview Resort in Davao del Norte province.
"Up to 11 suspects arrived on a motorboat, and some of them headed to the yacht, knocked and forcibly herded the victims to their boat, before speeding off," Senior Superintendent Samuel Gadingan was quoted by the Inquirer newspaper.
The investigation into the abduction of the people has already been launched. Police is currently trying to identify the group behind the kidnapping.
Samal Island, known as the Island Garden, saw a similar incident in 2001, when militants from the Islamic extremist group Abu Sayyaf attacked Pearl Farm Resort, killing two people and injuring three others.
