NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — The perpetrators of a recent terrorist attack in the northern Indian state of Punjab came from Pakistan, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh said in a statement on Thursday.
On Monday, three gunmen opened fire on a bus and a police station in the Gurdaspur district close to the Pakistani border. The attack left 10 people dead, including the three attackers, and several injured.
"GPS inputs show that terrorists came from Pakistan," the minister said in the upper house of the local parliament.
The Indian home minister added that his country intends to defeat cross-border terrorism.
"India is committed to give befitting reply to cross-border terrorism," he stressed.
Punjab borders the Jammu and Kashmir state, disputed by India and Pakistan. Local residents, especially those residing in the Kashmir Valley, call for greater autonomy and independence from India.
