TOKYO (Sputnik) – Popular support for the Japanese cabinet has dropped by more than 10 percent after the country’s lower house passed a law allowing the deployment of self-defense forces abroad, according to a poll conducted by Kyodo news agency.
In June, the Japanese government had the support of 47.4 percent of people in the country. Popularity dropped to 37.7 percent after the law was ratified.
Over 70 percent of the respondents said they did not approve of broader defense-force powers. The opposition has boycotted the legislation.
Opponents of the law say it violates the 1947 constitution, which limited the role of the armed forces to defense.
