Malaysia Quake Death Toll Reaches 11, Search Continues for Missing Tourists

The death toll from a powerful earthquake that rocked Malaysia’s highest peak, Mount Kinabalu, has reached 11 people, with eight people still unaccounted for, local media reported Saturday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The death toll rose after rescuers recovered nine more bodies following the 6.0 magnitude quake that hit the Sabah state on the island of Borneo on Friday, the Star newspaper reported citing Sabah Tourism Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.

The minister said that Mount Kinabalu, which is part of the Kinabalu Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, would be closed for at least three weeks to repair facilities there, according to the daily.
