“Fourteen remaining employees of the Chinese Embassy in Yemen have left the country on Monday after assisting evacuation of almost 600 China citizens in Yemen, and returned home on Wednesday in the afternoon from Ethiopia,” the news outlet said.
On Monday, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced it had evacuated 613 Chinese citizens, including diplomatic and consular staff, and had closed the country’s embassy and general consulate in Yemen. Using two military vessels, China evacuated 279 citizens of 15 other states.
Other countries, including India, Saudi Arabia, Russia and France have been evacuating their citizens from the Yemeni capital over security concerns. The United Nations has also pulled its staff out of Yemen.
Yemen is currently experiencing violent clashes between the Houthi militants and forces loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. In late March, a Saudi Arabia-led international coalition launched airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen upon Hadi's request.
At least 640 people have been killed and over 2,200 injured in the Yemeni crisis since March 19, according to the World Health Organization estimates.
