Bomb disposal experts defused a 1000 lb. mine from the World War II era discovered in a river near a village, located in Thailand's Chumphon province 470 kilometers (292 miles) south of Bangkok.
The villagers were dredging the river near a major rail route when they found the explosive device, according to DPA. They immediately notified local police.
In April 2014, warehouse workers in Bangkok tried to destroy an allegedly inactive World War II-era bomb, detonating it in the process. The incident left seven people killed and 19 wounded.
