Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying stated that Beijing would hold grand commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the Second Sino-Japanese war.

BEIJING (Sputnik) – Beijing will hold a military parade this year to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the Second Sino-Japanese war, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.

"In accordance with the common practice and in reference to routines of other countries, we will hold grand commemorations in Beijing this year which include commemoration meeting, military parade, reception and artistic performance. President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders will attend these activities," Hua said, as quoted by the ministry's website Monday.

Hua added that international leaders and organizations, such as the United Nations will be invited to the event.

Earlier this month, reports emerged that Moscow and Beijing were planning to hold joint commemorations of the end of World War II.

Russia is holding its annual Victory Day parade on May 9. At least 22 heads of states have already confirmed their intent to arrive at the Moscow event to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.
