About ten ethnic minority rebels have been killed and eight more captured by Myanmar troops during a firefight in the country's north near the Chinese border, Myanmar state media reported.
On Saturday, government troops clashed with Kokang "renegade groups", who had "infiltrated" the main city of Laukkai, according to state-run newspaper the Global New Light of Myanmar.
The fighting came several days after Myanmar's military started conducting airstrikes and ground assaults on rebel positions to respond to last week's attack on an army headquarters in the Kokang region.
