The number of victims from twin deadly blasts in Somalia’s north targeting at the local government has increased to 23, media reported Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, two consecutive explosions in Somalia’s north-central Mudug region hit local government headquarters and emergency services at the scene.

The bombings claimed lives of 23 people, including a number of students and local traders, the CNN broadcaster reported citing local officials.

The media outlet added that al-Shabaab terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Somalia has been experiencing violence since the country devolved into civil war in the early 1990s. The state’s collapse provided a breeding ground for warlords, pirates and the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabaab.
