According to a Tunisian government spokesman, the gunmen who killed at least 21 people on Wednesday received weapons training in Libya.

The two men who carried out Wednesday's terrorist attack targeting tourists at a Tunis museum received training in neighboring Libya, Rafik Chelly, Tunisian Secretary of State for Security Affairs, has disclosed.

According to reports on Friday, Chelly told Tunisian media that the two men, Yassine Abidi and Hatem Khachnaoui, had been recruited at mosques in Tunisia and then traveled to a training camp in Libya towards the end of last year. Training camps for Tunisians are located in Sabratha, Benghazi and Derna, said Chelly, who could not specify which one the pair attended.

On Thursday the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, in which at least 21 people, including 17 foreign tourists, were killed after the two gunmen opened fire on visitors to the Bardo museum in Tunis. The Tunisian authorities announced on Thursday they had made nine arrests in connection with their investigation.
