Libya's parliament has confirmed anti-Islamist General Khalifa Haftar as the commander of Libya's armed forces, news reports said.
"The House of Representatives has appointed General Khalifa Belqasem Haftar as top military commander," Tarek Saqer Juroushi, deputy head of the parliament's defense committee, said.
He added that Haftar had been promoted to lieutenant-general and that he would be sworn in later on Tuesday.
The post of army chief was created in line with a new law passed by Libya's internationally-backed parliament last week.
