UNITED NATIONS, November 18 (Sputnik) — UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has congratulated Burkina Faso on signing the Charter of Transition and on the appointing of Transitional President.

In the Monday release, Ban Ki-moon congratulated the people of Burkina Faso and said he "looks forward to the early appointment of the Transitional Prime Minister, as well as other members of the transitional organs."

According to UN, Ban "commends all Burkinabe stakeholders for their continuing commitment to peacefully engage in dialogue to address all outstanding issues. The United Nations, in cooperation with the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States and other international partners, will continue to support Burkina Faso in order to complete arrangements for the transition and to accompany its efforts during the transitional period leading to the holding of elections in November 2015."

Ban said he looked forward to the signing earlier on November 14.

On November 1, Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, spoke of the the need for a civilian-led transition and the holding of elections as soon as possible to replace ousted president Blaise Compaore, who had resigned and had given the power to the military.

Compaore resigned amid protests against his decision to stay in office after 27 years.
