The Indonesian Sriwijaya Air passenger plane is feared to have crashed into the water not far from Jakarta, as it went missing shortly after take-off.

Live from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta after authorities lost contact with Sriwijaya Air flight number 182 following its departure from the airport.

Earlier in the day, the Flightradar24 air service said that the plane — Sriwijaya Air Flight SJ182 — lost more than 10,000 feet of altitude in less than 60 seconds, four minutes after the departure from Jakarta.

The flight was operated by a Boeing 737-500, which had 59 passengers on board.
