Yangon International Airport has been closed after a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane skidded off the runway during a go-around, suffering extensive damage and leaving 4 people injured, Bangladesh News reported.

Flight BG060, reportedly carrying 33 passengers, slid off the runway during landing at about 6:20 p.m. local time (around 12:00 GMT), according to the Daily Star.

"It was a crash landing. I don't have any details on casualties. There were 28 passengers on the plane", a Bangladeshi Biman Airlines representative told Sputnik.

Firefighters and multiple ambulances have promptly arrived at the scene.

"Nineteen passengers, including two pilots were admitted to hospital to treat their injuries. Eleven passengers were released upon receiving treatment at the airport clinic", Bangladeshi Ambassador to Myanmar Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury said, as quoted by the Dhaka Tribune newspaper.

Earlier, the Daily Star reported, citing sources at Biman, that fifteen people, including a pilot of the aircraft, were injured.

Photos of the accident at Yangon International Airport have already appeared online.
