French President Emmanuel Macron has held a press conference on the second day of the European Council's summit in Brussels.

Macron's address comes as the protests organised by the Yellow Vests movement in France are poised to enter their fifth week on Saturday despite the fact that the government had agreed to cancel the fuel tax hike and raise the minimum wage in line with the demonstrators' demands.

"The country needs calm, it needs order, it needs to find a normal functioning", Emmanuel Macron stated at the press conference in Brussels when asked whether he planned to call on the protest movement's participants to avoid taking part in Saturday's rally.

The French president has confirmed that he is set to visit Strasbourg on 14 December.

"After this press conference, I will go to Strasbourg, the site of the terrorist attack, to be with the victims, with the residents of the city and to thank our law enforcement forces", Macron said in Brussels.
