The change in North Korean rhetoric occurred ahead of the summit between the country's leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump scheduled for June. Pyongyang has already demonstrated its determination to abandon nuclear weapons as the country started to dismantle facilities at its only-known Punggye-ri nuclear test site.

In April, North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un announced his plans to end nuclear and missile tests immediately and shut a nuclear test side in the country's north. The world hailed the long-awaited decision of Pyongyang as the tensions on the Korean Peninsula was running high after years of nuclear and missile tests conducted by North Korea.
