President Donald Trump should be examined by mental health experts for signs of early-stage dementia or other emotional disorders to determine if he should be removed from office and replaced by Vice President Mike Pence, US Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren urged in a press release on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier on Friday, Lofgren introduced a resolution urging Pence to have Trump examined by medical and psychiatric professionals to help determine "whether the President is unfit and unable to fulfill his Constitutional duties."

"Does the President suffer from early stage dementia?" Lofgren asked. "Has the stress of office aggravated a mental illness crippling impulse control? Has emotional disorder so impaired the President that he is unable to discharge his duties?"

Trump Doubles Down on White Supremacy
The 25th Amendment of the US Constitution provides a mechanism for the vice president to take over as the nation’s chief executive if the president is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office."

The furor over Trump’s response to a violent, racially charged rally last Saturday has prompted increased speculation in the US media and by some Democrats in Congress that mental illness could be used as a pretext to remove the president from office.
