CHARLOTTESVILLE (Sputnik), Kristopher Rivera — The participants of Saturday's counterprotests over far-right rallies in Charlottesville who had been been injured in the erupted violence, blame the city officials for allowing the far-right protests, a Sputnik correspondent reported Monday.

The major "Unite the Right" rally organized by far-right nationalists took place in Charlottesville on Saturday as a protest against the authorities' plans to remove a monument to Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from a city park. The rally led to clashes between the demonstrators and counterprotesters, culminating in a car ramming incident, which left one person dead and over 30 injured.

The violence prompted Governor of the US state of Virginia Terry McAuliffe to declare a state of emergency in Charlottesville on Saturday.
