MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Peskov noted that there is more work ahead in the creation of two additional de-escalation zones, and declined to comment on reported difficulties of working with Syrian authorities in Idlib.
"Positively, not without difficulties, but a positive trend is established where these zones have already begun to work," Peskov told reporters when asked to assess.
"I would not want to wade into these details right now, I do not think it would be correct," Peskov said.
In early July, a de-escalation zone was established in the southwestern part of Syria in the districts of Deraa, Suweida and Quneitra.
Four safe zones have been established in Syria so far. The first one, in the north of the country, covers the province of Idlib and neighboring districts of Latakia, Aleppo and Homs. The second is in the north of the province of Homs. The third is located in the south of Syria, in the Quneitra and Daraa provinces, while the fourth one is in the Eastern Ghouta.
The four zones are expected to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, help prevent future clashes and restore economic activity. The memorandum on the establishment of the four zones came in force on May 6.
