MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Sunday, a 17-year-old Palestinian from Amman arrived at the embassy security guard’s apartment to install furniture and allegedly tried to stab the security officer with a screwdriver. The guard opened fire at the assailant killing him and the apartment’s owner. The Israeli embassy was evacuated after the incident.

According to the Alghad media outlet, Jordan wants Israel to ensure that the guard would face the trial. Amman also hopes Israel would contribute to the investigation.

"Israeli Prime Minister [Benjamin Netanyahu] must fulfill his obligations and take legal measures," the King said, as quoted by the Petra news agency.

From the King's point of view, Netanyahu tried to use the incident for his own political purposes.

"Such an unacceptable and provocative behavior at all levels causes our outrage and results in the destabilization of the security situation, triggers extremism in the region and will never be acceptable," King Abdullah II said referring to Netanyahu's meeting with the embassy's guard.

On Wednesday, the royal chancellery said that the Jordanian authorities were closely monitoring the situation.
