Sean Spicer Leaves Post of White House Press Secretary
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the New York Times reported that Spicer resigned over his disagreement with the administration's decision to appoint financier Anthony Scaramucci as the new communications director. Trump asked Spicer to keep the job, but Spicer stated that selecting Scaramucci was a big mistake, the media reported citing sources who said they were familiar with the matter.

However, Scaramucci later denied the reported infighting.

Spicer is expected to remain at the White House to help with the transition through August.

"I am grateful for Sean’s work on behalf of my administration and the American people," Trump said in a statement, quoted by Sanders. "I wish him continued success as he moves on to pursue new opportunities."

Scaramucci announced Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be promoted to be the next White House press secretary. She has held most of the recent briefings amid media criticism of Spicer.

According to the NBC News, Scaramucci was offered the job on Thursday, when he met with the president and his daughter Ivanka Trump in the Oval Office.

Previous communications director Mike Dubke resigned in late May after three months in office. The White House communications director is responsible for developing and promoting agenda of the US president and leading its media campaign. The director works on speeches of the president and organizes key addresses such as the State of the Union Address.
