Russia must react preventively to external economic risks, increasing the country’s economic potential should be its response, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the president, the country’s economic potential must be boosted and its effectiveness must be increased.

"We see deep, large-scale processes which are taking place in the world … Every year, the competition for markets, technology, capitals is increasing. Economic restrictions, pressures, sanctions are being used in political goals, under the guise of political goals in competition… We must take these tendencies into account and react preventively to risks and threats," Putin told the Russian Security Council.

Putin Focuses on Russian Economy in Key Annual Speech
It is necessary to continue work to form favorable investment climate in Russia, Putin said Wednesday.

"Overall it is necessary to continue work to form favorable investment climate, business climate."

The Russian government and the Central Bank should continue paying extra attention to financial and banking stability, he added.

"I expect that the government, the Bank of Russua will continue paying extra attention to ensuring stability of the financial banking system of the country, increasing availability of credit resources for the real sector of the economy."
