Western Media Applies 'Double Standards' When Reporting on Situation in Aleppo

Western media has a one-sided approach to the situation in the Syrian city of Aleppo, French lawmaker Nicolas Dhuicq told Sputnik France. According to him, the West ignores advances by the Syrian Army against terrorists.

The French call for an emergency Security Council meeting on Aleppo is an attempt to distract attention from the operation in the Iraqi city of Mosul, Russian Envoy to the UN Vitaly Churkin said after Security Council consultations on Tuesday.

According to Churkin, the current situation in Mosul is "more dramatic" than in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

On Wednesday, the United Nations issued a new warning about humanitarian conditions in Mosul, where Daesh militants are currently struggling for control against United States-backed Iraqi forces.

The offensive against the terrorists has lasted more than six weeks, and Baghdad is currently trying to ferret out the terrorists embedded amongst civilians in the eastern districts where Iraqi troops have not yet been able to penetrate.

As for Aleppo, the Syrian Army has recently made considerable progress in liberating Aleppo from terrorists by capturing more than a third of the territory held by jihadists in the eastern part of the city.

The situation with Aleppo is indicative of a double-standard approach to information, said Nicolas Dhuicq, a French lawmaker from the Republicans party and member of the parliamentary commission on defense and armed forces.

"This is a double standard. The media covers the situation in a different manner, depending on where people are killed – in eastern or western Aleppo. Western media focuses on the eastern part of the city and ignores the situation in western Aleppo," Dhuicq told Sputnik France.

He also criticized France’s official stance on the Syrian crisis and Syrian President Bashar Assad.

"France’s current policy is far from the principles of traditional France. Paris wants to topple Assad and his government. At the same time, any achievement of the Syrian government is underestimated or ignored by France. France’s stance on Syria is negative in terms of the liberation of Aleppo and in terms of the future of the Syrian people," the lawmaker pointed out.

Pierre le Corf, founder of the NGO called "We are superheroes" working in Aleppo, said that many people are starting to understand that everything they have been told about the Syrian war is not reality but a "well-developed media construction."

In the near future, the media will face a "lack of arguments" because there will be evidence from local residents.

"The media continue to use its business model. It invents stories about warplanes dropping bombs on civilians for no reason. But there will come a day when the mainstream media will face a lack of arguments because people living here and the situation on the ground will turn against those arguments," he said in an interview with Sputnik France.

Dhuicq noted that Western media outlets have made numerous reports on "collateral damage and victims" in Aleppo while ignoring the same in Mosul.

"Unfortunately, war is blood, tears and deaths. The battle for Mosul was announced long ago. It will be a long battle in the city streets. And there will be victims," the lawmaker said.

He also commented on the situation in Aleppo, saying that the only way out is the complete liberation of Aleppo from militants.

"The only option is that Aleppo is liberated by the Syrian Army. The only way out in Mosul is that the city is liberated by the coalition. The difference is that after the liberation the Syrian Army will be with Aleppo residents. But we can’t say how Mosul resident will react to the liberation," Dhuicq said.
