Seventeen US companies have received more than $11 billion in contracts in order to provide the US Air Force with "contract field teams" to operate in support roles over the next seven years, the Department of Defense announced.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The companies have been awarded a shared not-to-exceed $11.4 billion contract for Contract Field Teams, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.

"Contractors will compete for task orders that will provide… high quality augmentation for fielded active weapon system maintenance."
