MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Army units stationed in the government-held city deep in Daesh territory carried out artillery strikes against Daesh positions in two city districts as well as in a village further to the east, the SANA news agency reported.
Clashes also reportedly took place near the city's military airfield which was previously the site of an accidental US airstrike on Syrian army positions which resulted in Daesh's attempt to overwhelm Syrian defenses.
On Thursday, an army attacked and killed 26 militants near the airfield.
On September 17, US-led coalition aircraft carried out four strikes against the army near the airport, leaving 62 soldiers killed and some 100 wounded. The Pentagon said that the airstrike was a mistake and was intended to target Daesh militants, while a number of Syrian officials stated that the attack was intentional.
