WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The report characterized Obama’s popularity surge as a post-election bump, even though Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton lost the presidential race to Republican Donald Trump two weeks ago.
"Improvements in Obama's approval rating seem to stem largely from Republicans and Republican-leaning independents," a CNN report accompanying the poll explained.
At the same time, the report said favorability ratings for the Democratic Party have dropped six points since a similar poll in October. Moreover, 54 percent of those surveyed hold a negative of the Democrats, their worst rating since 1992.
Overall, 41 percent of respondents had a favorable view of the Republican Party, compared with 39 percent for Democrats, the poll revealed.
