US Federal Reserve to Increase Interest Rates 'Relatively Soon' - Yellen
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen intends to serve her full four-year term, she told the Joint Economic Committee of Congress on Thursday.

"I was confirmed by the Senate to a four-year term which ends at the end of January 2018 and it is fully my intention to serve out that term," she stated.

US President-elect Donald Trump criticized Yellen during his campaign, at one point accusing her of not raising interest rates at the request of President Barack Obama.

The comments prompted questions about Trump and Yellen’s ability to work together for the remainder of her term.

Earlier on Thursday, Yellen said the Federal Reserve would raise interest rates relatively soon, citing the risk of financial instability if the rate is held too long at its current levels.
