BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — The minister noted that 117 Belgian militants had already come back, while one half of them in prison and the second half under surveillance.

"The Islamic State [Daesh] positions in Raqqa and Mosul are being attacked. Belgian militants may stay to help defend IS [Daesh], or, what we should be particularly concerned about, IS will sent them back. Not only 200 Belgians, but from 3,000 to 5,000 Europeans who stay there," Jambon told the RTBF broadcaster.

In September, Belgian authorities announced the implementation of a database containing information about foreign mercenaries, elaborated for intelligence agencies, law enforcement bodies and government authorities. The database comprises the information about nearly 650 citizens and residents of Belgium who are already involved in military actions or left there to join Daesh.
