GENEVA (Sputnik) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is ready to double financing of humanitarian aid programs in Syria in 2017, but it depends on the security situation on the ground, Robert Mardini, a senior official at the ICRC, told Sputnik.
"We can even today double our budget for Syria, and we have no doubt that there are needs for this," Mardini, the ICRC's regional director for the Middle East, said.
"But we will not ask for more money if we don't have reasonable reasons to think that we would be able to implement this, so this is why we do this incrementally," he said.
