DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Ankara's decision to send troops to Iraq will lead to Turkey’s eventual breakup, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi warned the neighbor on Tuesday.
"Any invasion by Turkey in Iraq will lead to its breakup," the prime minister said, as quoted by Al Mayadeen news channel.
Baghdad does not want a war with Ankara but is ready for it, Abadi threatened, after media reported Turkey was pulling armored vehicles and tanks to their joint border.
Turkey has been seeking an active role in the Iraqi military operation to recapture the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) stronghold of Mosul in northern Iraq.
Turkey sent troops across the border late last year to allegedly train Sunni fighters at a base near the Daesh-held Iraqi town of Bashiqa, prompting protests from Baghdad.
