It is impossible to seriously discuss incident prevention mechanisms as long as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is not yet ready to maintain military contacts, Russia's envoy to NATO Alexander Grushko said Monday.

VIENNA (Sputnik) — Grushko told RIA Novosti that Moscow had offered NATO members to hold a series of Baltic military security consultations at various formats, "including through the Russia-NATO Council, as well as with the participation of the Baltic countries."

"It is obvious that without the resumption of normal systematic dialogue between the militaries, it is impossible to discuss these issues seriously," the envoy said.

He observed that, despite stated calls for de-escalation and de-confliction within the Western military bloc, NATO maintains an anti-Russia course with decisions reached in Warsaw, suspending project activities with Russia, as well as terminating military contacts.

"Our position in relation to NATO's preparations on the eastern flank is absolutely clear. These efforts seriously degrade the safety in both the regional and pan-European dimension," Grushko stressed.
