Lithuania Demands to Reverse Stockholm’s Judgment on Suit Against Gazprom

Lithuania is going to file a lawsuit demanding to reverse the verdict of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) on the country’s suit against Russia’s Gazprom, the Lithuanian Energy Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

VILNIUS (Sputnik) – The Energy Ministry noted that appealing to the Swedish court is the only opportunity to protect national interests.

"The Lithuanian government authorized the Energy Ministry to make further steps to protect national interests and to reverse the Stockholm’s Judgment on the suit against Gazprom," the statement said.

"The lawsuit will be filed until September 22," the statement said.

In October 2012, Lithuania sued Gazprom in the SCC, asking for compensation from the company for overcharging gas consumers in Lithuania between 2004 and 2012.

In summer the SCC dismissed the Lithuanian suit against on 1.4 billion euro ($1.58 billion) compensation for allegedly unfair gas prices.
