TRIPOLI (Sputnik) — Two car bomb explosions occurred in the Libyan capital of Tripoli near the government facilities, including the Foreign Ministry's building and the Navy base, where the country's Government of National Accord (GNA) is headquartered, a government's spokesperson told Sputnik on Thursday.
"We do not have any information concerning those who carried out the blasts. We are waiting for the results of the ongoing investigation," the spokesperson said.
No casualties were reported. No group has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attacks so far.
Libya has been in a state of turmoil since 2011, when a civil war began in the country and long-standing leader Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown. In December, Libya’s rival governments — the Council of Deputies based in Tobruk and the Tripoli-based General National Congress — agreed to create the GNA and end the political impasse.
The Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh), outlawed in the United States, Russia and many other countries, gained a foothold in Libya in the turmoil following the 2011 overthrow of leader Muammar Gaddafi.
