US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said that she will call for a new Nuclear Posture Review, if she becomes president.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton vowed on Wednesday to initiate a new Nuclear Posture Review as one of her first steps as president if she takes the White House in 2017.

"One of the first things I will do as president is to call for a new Nuclear Posture Review," Clinton said in a speech to the American Legion Convention in Ohio.

The former secretary of state emphasized the importance of keeping the US nuclear arsenal "prepared to meet future threats."

In addition to reviewing US nuclear strategy, Clinton also committed to "a renewed push to reduce the world’s nuclear weapons," and secure nuclear materials from getting into terrorists’ hands.

The Nuclear Posture Review establishes US nuclear policy, strategy, and force posture for the next five to ten years. It is legislatively mandated that each new incoming presidential administration conducts such a review.
