The Syrian Red Crescent said it was evacuating 36 people from three besieged towns.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — As many as 36 people were evacuated from besieged towns of Madaya, Kafarya and Foaa in Syria, the Syrian Red Crescent said on Friday.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting against a number of opposition factions and extremist groups.

​The ceasefire in Syria brokered by Russia and the United States took effect on February 27 to facilitate humanitarian access to all besieged areas in the country, among other purposes.
