Russian synchronized swimmers Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina emerged victorious in women's duet competition, bringing Russia its 12th gold medal.

RIO DE JANEIRO (Sputnik) — During the finals, Ishchenko and Romashina who became the leaders in the technical routine with 96.4577 points, received 98.5333 for the free routine with a total of 194.9910, an unattainable result for their rivals.

This is the fourth Olympic medal for Ishchenko and Romashina following their victories at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The Summer Olympic Games are being held in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro from August 5 until August 21. Brazil is the first South American country to host the competition.
