WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq since the summer of 2014.
"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted five strikes using fighter aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets," the release said on Wednesday. "Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted seven strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq."
The five airstrikes in Syria hit Daesh locations near the towns of Raqqah and Manbij, destroying Daesh headquarters, four tactical units, and five fighting positions, according to the Central Command.
In Iraq, the seven airstrikes hit locations near six towns, including Mosul and Ramadi, destroying tactical units, fighting positions, assembly areas, one headquarters, mortar systems and a fuel tanker.
The Daesh terrorist group is outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries throughout the world.
