IOC Adds Baseball, Karate, Surfing to 2020 Tokyo Games Program

Five new sports, namely baseball/softball, karate, surfing, sport climbing and skateboard, were added to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics program on Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The decision to add these sports to the Olympics program culminated a two-year process that began with the unanimous approval of the IOC’s strategic roadmap in 2014, the statement added.

"The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today agreed to add baseball/softball, karate, skateboard, sports climbing and surfing to the sports programme for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The decision by the 129th IOC Session in Rio de Janeiro was the most comprehensive evolution of the Olympic programme in modern history," IOC said in a statement.
