NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Alexander Fishenko, a dual citizen of the United States and Russia, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for his alleged role in the illegal export of microelectronics with military applications, the US Department of Justice said in a press release on Thursday.
"Earlier today, Alexander Fishenko… was sentenced to 120 months’ imprisonment and ordered to forfeit more than $500,000 in criminal proceeds," the press release said.
In 1998, Fishenko founded the Arc Electronics company in Houston, Texas, which according to prosecutors, shipped about $50 million worth of technologies to Russia.
In 2012, the US authorities charged Fishenko with illegal export of controlled microelectronics, conspiracy to launder money, obstruction of justice and acting as a foreign agent.
Fishenko pled guilty to the charges on September 9.
